Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska to northern California, east to Idaho and Montana.

Habitat: Wet cliffs and ledges, usually at middle to high elevations in the mountains, but descending to near sea level in the Columbia River Gorge.

Flowers: June-August

Description:
General:

Slender, lax, herbaceous perennials, 1-2 dm. tall, nearly glabrous except for the soft hairs on the margins of the petioles.

Leaves:

Leaves mostly basal, the blades reniform-orbicular, 1-4 cm. wide, palmately veined and coarsely dentate; petioles well-developed, their bases expanding and overlapping; cauline leaves few and low on the stem, or none.

Flowers:

Inflorescence several-flowered, racemose, loose and elongate on naked peduncles, surpassing the leaves, the pedicels 1-4 cm. long; calyx divided nearly to the base, the 5 lobes short; corolla bell-shaped, 5-lobed, white with a yellow eye, 6-11 mm. long and wide; stamens 5; style 2-5 mm. long, 2-parted.

Fruits:

Capsule 2-celled, ovules numerous.
